Discover the exciting world of web design in this comprehensive course, combining essential foundational skills with advanced techniques. Students will learn the building blocks of creating visually appealing and functional websites while exploring the creative and technical aspects of web design.
In the first half of the year, students will focus on:
● Understanding design principles and how designers gather inspiration and conduct visual research.
● Learning to plan, design, and create a basic landing page, considering its purpose and target audience.
● Exploring essential concepts like color theory, typography, composition, branding, and basic animation for web design.
In the second half of the year, students will delve into more advanced web design techniques, including:
● Understanding and applying SEO (Search Engine Optimization) principles to improve website visibility and functionality.
● Learning wireframing and advanced project planning techniques.
● Designing a mock 9-page website that integrates branding, advanced layout, and interactive features.
By the end of the course, students will have a comprehensive understanding of web design and development, a strong foundation in planning and executing web projects, and a portfolio showcasing their completed landing and multi-page website designs. Students will be using the Wix platform to design websites in this course. We will be using the student version called Wix Tomorrow. The Tomorrow Classroom is project-based learning for high school students, it is secure, and the teacher has access to all work your student does on the platform.
Expectations:
Students will have two days of face-to-face classes weekly. They will begin and complete their web design work in class every week. There is no homework in this class unless your student is absent and needs to make up classwork. The student will turn in their assignment at the end of every class for grading and feedback. Students must be engaged and actively participate during all class activities. An appropriate maturity level and ability to work independently and in groups is required.

• 6th grade reading level
Required Textbooks:
• Students must bring a laptop to every class. Tablets and phones are not supported by Wix.
