Graphic Design

Grades 6-12

Teacher: Kelly Thomas

Description:
This comprehensive Graphic Design course is perfect for students eager to explore the fundamentals of design and build advanced skills. The course is divided into two parts to provide a well-rounded, hands-on learning experience. In the first half of the year, students will dive into the basics of design principles, color theory, typography, visual communication, branding, and image manipulation. They’ll use these skills to design projects for various mediums and establish a solid foundation in graphic design. In the second half of the year, students will bring their knowledge to life by creating a mock business. They will choose a company, name it, and design the full branding package, including a logo, business cards, social media graphics, website, video ad, and more. Throughout the course, students will work hands-on with the teacher to explore more advanced design projects, such as magazine covers, posters, pop art, watercolor art, and shape art. They will also learn to manipulate and layer graphics, applying various professional design techniques. Using Canva software, students will create high-quality designs for print, web, and multimedia projects. By the end of the course, students will have a strong foundation in design principles and a portfolio of completed work that showcases their skills. Get ready to design, create, and build your design portfolio in this exciting and creative course!
