Middle School Chemistry and Physics

Grades 6-8

Description:
This General Science survey is an examination of the scientific method, designing experiments, studying simple machines, and an introduction to chemistry.

Expectations:
In addition to the two days of face-to-face classes, students are expected to work at least two more days under the supervision of the homeschool teacher. Students must read and answer Summary Module questions at the end of each chapter in 2 weeks. Labs are scheduled weekly, and take-home tests will be administered at the end of each chapter. Students will have a few projects to create at home and present in class.

Prerequisites:
• Completed 5th-grade math
• 6th-grade reading level
• 10+ years of age suggested.

Required Textbooks:
• Exploring Creation with General Science, 3rd ed., Student Text Only, by Dr. Jay L. Wile, Apologia—ISBN 9781946506573 (Note: You will NOT need the CD or the Solutions and Test Manuals for this course). This book is used for a two-year cycle of MS General Science courses.

• 3-ring binder
• (8) Dividers
• Loose leaf notebook paper
• Pens
• Pencils
• Red pen
• Colored pencils
• Ruler
• (3) Glue sticks
• $35 Middle School lab fee
