High School English 3 & 4
Grades 10-12
Teacher: Solberg
Description:
College-preparatory level composition, literary and rhetorical analysis, grammar and usage, and vocabulary. This is a two-year cycle class. This year’s theme is “Finding Courage.”
Expectations:
In addition to the two days of face-to-face classes, students are expected to work at least two more days under the supervision of the homeschool teacher. Students are expected to assume responsibility for their learning in all areas: reading, vocabulary, writing, and class discussions. Vocabulary study will be primarily literature-based. Students may read 50-75 pages a week, completing handouts or other literature-related work concurrently. Students will also read nonfiction works and complete rhetorical analysis informally and in essays to prepare for college-level reading and writing. In the fall, students will write two complete essays, one of which may be in class; in the spring, students will write an entire essay and a researched argument. Projects will be assigned periodically throughout the year.
