Description:
High school-level essay writing, literature analysis, grammar, and vocabulary. This is a two-year cycle class. The theme for this year is “The Hero's Journey.”
Expectations:
In addition to the two days of face-to-face classes, students are expected to work at least two more days under the supervision of the homeschool teacher. Students should expect to read 2-5 chapters in the assigned literature selection per week; accompanying assignments will be given to assess comprehension of the material. Class discussion and note-taking will be required as part of the student’s classroom experience. Sentence Openers and Dress Ups are expected to be memorized and utilized in the writing process. 2-3 essays will be assigned throughout the first and second semesters. In addition, a research paper will be assigned during the second semester, and the teacher will direct each step according to set due dates.
Prerequisites:
• Three years of Middle School English/Language Arts or the equivalent.
• 9th-grade reading level.
• New students must register for and attend the HRM Writing Boot Camp

Literature: (Rented by HRM for $10 rental fee included on invoice.)

Supplies Needed:
• Pens: black, blue, and red (2-3 of each color)
• Pencils
• Highlighters: green, blue, and yellow
• 3-ring binder, 1 ½ - 2 inch
• Loose-leaf notebook paper.
• 10 pocketed folders w/3-ring binder holes to be used in binder
• Thesaurus: Roget’s or Webster’s
