Intermediate English 1 & 2

Description:
Intermediate essay writing, literature interpretation, grammar, vocabulary, and study skills. This is a two-year cycle class. This year’s theme is “Making Right Choices.”
Expectations:
In addition to the two days of face-to-face classes, students are expected to work at least two more days under the supervision of the homeschool teacher. Students must read approximately 50-60 pages of a given novel weekly, completing study guides or other handouts as assigned. Writing will include informal and formal short assignments, two essays, and a research paper in the spring. In-class discussions are essential; students must demonstrate collegial respect and participate fully. Projects will be assigned periodically throughout the year.
Prerequisites:
• 7th-grade reading level.
• New students must register for and attend the HRM Writing Boot Camp.

Supplies Needed:
• Pens: black, blue, and red
• Highlighters: green, blue, and yellow
• 3-ring binder, 1 ½ - 2 inch
• Loose-leaf notebook paper
• 6 or more sectional dividers with pockets
• Post-It Notes (3x3 standard size): amount needed determined by student's annotations
• 2 Pocket folders with 3-ring binder holes to be used in the binder
• Thesaurus: Example -Roget’s or Webster’s
• Class projects will require additional supplies-to be determined largely by the student
