Description:
This class offers an alternative math credit for students who want more math or just enough credits for a high school career. Using a Biblical approach, students will learn about income, budgeting, personal banking, borrowing money, acquiring housing, life & health insurance, income taxes, the costs associated with transportation, food, clothing, maintaining a home, and vacations. This is an extended class covering 3 hours per week.
Expectations:
In addition to the two days of face-to-face classes, students are expected to work at least two more days under the supervision of the homeschool teacher. Homework is assigned every class period. Time on homework varies due to student ability. 2-4 take home tests will be given each grading period.
Prerequisites:
· Algebra 1.
· Consumer math will be applying many math skills in real life context. Students should have fluency in the following skills in order to be successful in this class: Order of operations, fractions, ratios, rates, proportions, percents, integers, writing & solving equations, exponent rules, unit conversions, measurement formulas, substitution, elapsed time, how to read tables and charts, and scaling.
· New students will be required to participate in a math placement

• 3-ring binder
• 5 dividers for binder
• College ruled notebook paper
• Pencils
• Highlighters
• Graphing calculator (TI-84 or higher) or scientific calculator
